Waterbury MeterCard

What is the Waterbury MeterCard?
The Waterbury MeterCard is a re-programmable card that provides a convenient and cashless way to pay for parking at the electronic meters operated by the City of Waterbury. The card can be carried in your wallet or purse or stored in your vehicle, eliminating the need to carry change for the meters.

How does the MeterCard work?
A MeterCard is available for purchase at the Parking Division office, 210 Bank Street, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) between 8:55 AM and 4:30 PM. The Parking Division will issue the MeterCards. The Parking Division's office phone number is 203.574.6721, and they are open 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM , Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).

The following forms of payment are acceptable:
Cash
Money Order
Certified Bank Check
No personal or business checks acceptable

What is the minimum or maximum amount I can purchase on a MeterCard?
The MeterCard can be purchased in any round figure amount, $10, $20, $25, $50, etc.

Can I purchase more than one MeterCard?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of MeterCards that you can purchase, but there is a non-refundable $5.00 fee for each new card.

Where can I use the MeterCard?
The MeterCard can be used at any of the over 650 electronic parking meters located throughout the City of Waterbury.

What is the cost for metered parking?
The cost for parking at meters in the City of Waterbury varies by location. The hourly rate for parking, as well as the maximum time allowed at each meter, is indicated on a plate visible inside each meter.

Can I use the MeterCard with coins at a meter?
Yes. The MeterCard can be used in combination with American nickels, dimes and quarters. Foreign currency is not accepted.

Will my MeterCard expire after a certain amount of time?
No. You can use the MeterCard as long as there is parking value on the card. Your parking habits will determine how frequently you use your MeterCard and how long you possess one.

Can I get a refund if I put too much time on the meter with the MeterCard?
Yes. You can get a refund for the unused time on the meter. After two (2) minutes pass on the meter, time can be retrieved in 25 cent increments credited to your MeterCard. To obtain the refund, simply re-insert your card into the meter. The cash value on the card will immediately flash four (4) times and a flat line will appear. The fifth (5) flash activates the refund option (the letters “REF” will appear on the screen) and will indicate the new value on the card (the old value plus the refunded meter value). Immediately remove the card after the fifth flash. If left in the meter, the MeterCard will either begin to detract time again or cause a meter error. You cannot get a refund on your MeterCard from a meter that had time placed on it by another MeterCard.

What if my MeterCard is lost, stolen or damaged?
Unfortunately, a lost or stolen MeterCard cannot be replaced because the City of Waterbury has no way of knowing the value left on the MeterCard or whether it is being used by someone else. The MeterCard is like cash and should be treated as such. It does not guarantee you a parking space, not nor does it allow you to park longer than the maximum time allowed at a meter.

Your MeterCard is very durable and can withstand considerable heat, cold and moisture. Since normal usage should not affect your MeterCard, no refunds will be issued if it becomes damaged and unusable.

Can I add value to an existing MeterCard?
Yes. The MeterCard can be re-charged by returning to the Parking Division office, 210 Bank Street, Monday through Friday (excluding holidays) between 8:55 AM and 4:30 PM. They will re-charge the MeterCard. The Parking Division phone number is 203.574.6721, and they are open 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). There is no fee for re-charging an existing MeterCard.
